Wallack, James William
(24 ago. 1795, Londres, Inglaterra–25 dic. 1864, Nueva York, N.Y., EE.UU.).

Actor-empresario estadounidense. Nacido en el seno de una familia teatral londinense, comenzó a interpretar roles shakesperianos a la edad de 12 años y en 1818 debutó en EE.UU. en el papel de Macbeth. Sus numerosas actuaciones en Londres y Nueva York, que se prolongaron hasta 1852, lo obligaron a cruzar el Atlántico en 35 ocasiones. Entre 1837 y 1839 codirigió el National Theatre de Nueva York junto con su hermano Henry John Wallack (n. 1790–m. 1870), que además era el actor principal de la compañía. Entre 1852 y 1862 fue uno de los directores artísticos del teatro Lyceum (rebautizado Wallack's Lyceum), donde su hijo Lester (n. 1820–m. 88) ejerció como director de escena. Después de suceder a su padre como director general, realizó refinadas producciones de obras inglesas, las que formaron a gran parte de los más importantes actores teatrales del s. XIX.
